"Thrill" Answers Fan Mail About Chris Byrd's Faith

Will,
Enjoyed the interview...
Byrd sounds like a stand-up guy, but what is it with these Christians in
boxing? How many of them have wound-up in prison for rape, drugs or
violence, spent a couple of years there, found Christ and then started
boxing again, only to wind-up in prison again!
At least Chris Byrd seems to have a solid family life...sounds like he may
be one of the exceptions, but if only he could punch, then he'd be a
superstar and we'd see how grounded he was!

Enzo Macaroni...

Dear Enzo,
I truly believe Byrd is a stand up guy! Since I am one of "these" Christians in boxing, I think I will try to answer your question! Any believer will tell you that Christ came to heal the rapists, addicts and criminals that you speak of, my own experience tells me that most Christians have had a pretty brutal past in one way or another.
It is not uncommon to find many men, not just boxers or athletes, who have jailhouse conversions and turn their lives over to God while incarcerated. But the sad fact is that as soon as they get out they go right back to the same friends and the same lifestyles that put them in there in the first place! It's not easy, but those who stand firm will have a better chance of success!
Now in regard to Chris, he does all the things he needs to do to stay on track, no one can deny that! And although he is not a Superstar, he is A heavyweight Champion and so far he has passed that test, he has handled it well, staying firmly grounded in what he believes!
